..."it’s important to being able to absorb every magical moment; you’ll treasure them, and they will come back to help you along your path each and every day!" -Dick Metcalf
Soothing magical guitar Shambhu – SOOTHE: …and that’s exactly what this accomplished guitarist does for your ears & your soul, to be sure!
His wonderful acoustic & electric guitar work is complimented very nicely by Michael Manring on bass, Jeff Haynes on percussion, Frank Martin on piano, Paul McCandless on reeds, Premik Russell Tubbs on soprano sax and wind synth, George Brooks on soprano sax, Ravichandra Kulur on bansuri flute, Kristin Hoffmann on vocals, and Gurumurthy V on tabla on this nine-song set of wonderment! I would make one recommendation to listeners – make sure you listen to this with your headphones firmly in place (at least for your first sitting)… it’s important to being able to absorb every magical moment; you’ll treasure them, and they will come back to help you along your path each and every day! For an added bonus, be sure and view the introduction video Shambhu has posted up on YouTube, where you can get up close & personal with the players:
I noted in my last review of his music (issue # 135) that there’s always something “different” than all the other guitar players coming through… the tune that best exemplifies that musical diversity (for me, anyway) is the broad and sweeping arrangements on “Gaia Sweet Divine“… and the percussion/vocals are just simply sweet! One of the things Shambhu had to say about his album is that it’s “a musical journey into the stillness and beauty of my inner experience”… and that’s what makes this talented artist shine so brightly for any listener out there… you will find things about yourself through the magic he creates, I’ve no doubt… I did! I’ve actually been reviewing his work since way back in about 2010 in issue # 110, so I’m well acquainted with the friendly and engaging spells he casts!
It is the marvelous blending of guitar and the other players on the opener, “Knowingness“, that made it my personal favorite – to be sure… once you listen to this tune, you won’t be able to stop until you’ll strolled through all 41 minutes. I give Shambhu a MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, with an “EQ” (energy quotient) rating of 4.98 for this excellent album. Get more information on the Shambhu web page for this February 2017 release.
