Launching my new book, From Music to Market, at MUSEXPO was one of the most meaningful moments in this journey so far.

MUSEXPO brings together artists, songwriters, producers, executives, entrepreneurs, and creative dreamers from many corners of the music world. It is a place where careers are imagined, built, reshaped, and renewed. For me, it felt like the right setting to introduce a book created to help artists move their music forward with greater clarity, confidence, and purpose.

What made the experience especially powerful was the chance to meet so many artists and composers face to face. I spoke with folks who are working hard to build sustainable music careers, grow their audiences, release new songs, and better understand the music business and where things are headed. Some were just getting started. Others had already traveled a long road and were looking for smarter, more aligned ways to navigate today’s marketplace.

Again and again, I felt the same current running through those conversations: artists still believe in the dream. They want to create meaningful work. They want their music to reach audiences. And they are also looking for practical guidance on how to make that happen.

That is why I wrote From Music to Market.

Why I Wrote From Music to Market

I wrote this book out of my own experience as both an artist and a marketer.

I know the inner world of making music, following inspiration, shaping recordings, and searching for an authentic voice. I also understand the outer world artists now have to navigate, including streaming platforms, distributors, branding, publishing, promotion, rights organizations, social media, and the growing pressure to be visible in a crowded market.

For many musicians, that landscape can feel overwhelming. There is so much information, so much noise, and so many opinions about what an artist is supposed to do. My goal in writing was to cut through that noise and offer something grounded, encouraging, and useful.

There was something special about sharing a book like this in a room full of artists who are actively trying to move their careers forward. I met talented people with drive, vision, and commitment. I met artists who are learning how to connect their creativity with the realities and uncertainties of the music business. I met people who are trying to find their own path without losing what makes them unique.

Those conversations reminded me that musicians do not need hype nearly as much as they need clarity. They need tools. They need perspective. They need encouragement that respects both the art and the marketplace.

MUSEXPO was the right place to begin that conversation around the book because the event carries the energy of ambition, creativity, and possibility. It gathers people who are still reaching, still building, still believing something meaningful can happen.

Honoring Sat Bisla’s Vision

I also want to acknowledge Sat Bisla, whose vision has helped make MUSEXPO such a valuable and lasting event for the music community over the past 26 years.

Sat is the President and Founder of A&R Worldwide and MUSEXPO, and his career in the global music industry spans four decades. His work has included A&R, journalism, broadcasting, management, and executive advisory roles, and he has been recognized for helping discover and support artists who went on to achieve major international success. Through MUSEXPO and his broader work across the industry, he has created a platform where artists, executives, innovators, and music professionals can connect in meaningful ways.

That spirit of connection is part of what makes MUSEXPO so important. For artists and dreamers trying to build something real, it offers more than networking. It offers momentum, perspective, and a sense that the path forward is still full of possibility.

Supporting Independent Artists in Today’s Music Business

Today’s music world offers more opportunity than ever, but it also asks more of artists than ever before.

You can now record at home, distribute globally, build direct relationships with listeners, and shape your own identity without waiting for permission. That is the good news. The challenge is that independence also requires knowledge, consistency, and strategy.

Artists need to understand how to present themselves, how to release music effectively, how to choose the right tools, how to think about promotion, and how to make wise decisions about where their energy goes. Artists need to know how to move from music to market without losing the heart of what they do.

That phrase, from music to market, is really the core of the book. It describes a journey many artists are already on, whether they have named it that way or not.

A Meaningful Moment in the Book’s Journey

For me, launching the book at MUSEXPO was more than a promotional moment. It was a confirmation. It confirmed for me that artists are hungry for practical wisdom. It confirmed that many musicians are looking for ways to build careers that feel authentic rather than manufactured. And it confirmed that sharing knowhow can genuinely help others move forward.

I came away from the conference grateful for every conversation, every connection, and every artist who shared something of their own path with me. I also came away inspired. The music dream is alive in so many people. What folks are looking for now is a clearer roadmap.

That is what I hope this book offers.
